Folk Hop!?

As most of you know [well... if your reading this blog then I say you should] know, Hip-Hop is the unparalleled phenomenon that was created by some poverty stricken, destitute and basically ignored ghetto kids in the Bronx. Oh my how this culture has grown [some would say overgrown.. but I digress...] into this billion-dollar producing cultural juggernaut that is reflected in ALL walks of life... and when I day all I do me e'rything from kids toys to fast food commercials to womens makeup products to health care ads to... Folk music?!?! What? Really? I mean country hip-hop music is not necessarily new but this folk music-meets hip hop trend is crazy...

I actually came across some pretty interesting covers of some of our favorite Hip-Hop staples done in...[[gulp]] folk & bluegrass{{!}} ...and some of the covers actually aint half bad.

"Hey Ya" By Andre 3000 of OutKast covered by Mat Weddle of Obadiah Parker
I'm actually really diggin this joint.. very soulful cover [anybody got a ripped audio of this please holla...

"Baby Got Back" By Sir-Mix-A-Lot covered by Jonathan Coulton
I mean... LMBBAO!!! just the the backup singing alone is ridiculously hilarious to see & hear....LOL

"Bust A Move" by Young MC covered by Jerry Chapman & His Acoustic Herbivores
This actually sounds pretty much like I thought an "unplugged" version of this song would sound... If Young MC popped out on stage I wouldn't have been totally shocked..

This is actually just a few of the covers that I thought was worth checking out... its just so ill that this Hip-Hop s#!+ has permeated the fabric of all cultures to the point that respected bluegrass/country geezers like The Gourds would be covering "Gin & Juice" by Snoop Doggy Dogg...craziness.

And for those who say that Hip-Hop aint real music.. watch this and realize that the structure of these songs didn't change .. just the instruments and the voices...

Who would've thought some poor ghetto kids would create something that would have such a profound impact on every walk of life...
