Tryna Catch Tha Beat....
Frustration is starting to settle in. I have only 1 more class left for my Beatmaking 101 course and I really don't feel as if I have a full grasp on the basics of beatmaking. I've also learned through other students that they are also frustrated. Don't get me all misconstrued, I actually have learned quite a bit in terms of the theory behind tempo/bar-counting etc. But I still am not totally grasping the different basic buttons/ functions of the Ableton Live program [maybe I'm just slow....]. I also feel as if 6 classes are just not enough to grasp of concepts and functions of a professional recording tool. I also felt as if the syllabus was way too loose, I kinda felt at times like we were just wingin' it....which is not the reason that people sign up for these classes in my opinion. I could wing it in front of my computer at home. In all fairness I don't think that it is the instructor's fault.
I think that Scratch Academy should lengthen the amount of classes [maybe 8 instead of 6 classes]. They should also consider giving the class more structure [maybe giving take-home assignments instead of just telling students to "go home and mess around with the program"]. They should also let you know before your sign up for the course that 90% of the courseload will focus ONLY on the Ableton Live program and not on Reason as they promote on their website. I kind of caught a bad one with this because I only have the Reason program on my home computer but not Ableton Live [each program costs $400]. So I figured they would at least spend some time teaching us about the reason program...i mean their site says they teach both programs. I have my final class coming up this Tuesday and that is the only class that they are gonna use to "touch on" the Reason software which almost didn't happen. Oh well...I think imma hafta do it old school style and just hunker down and try to figure it out on my own...
